Understanding Class, Privilege and the Environment
OVERBURDEN is the story of a fiery, pro-coal right-winger and a tenacious, environmentalist grandmother who are on opposite sides of the controversy over coal, until a tragedy unites them in taking on the most dangerous coal company in America. This complicated tale takes shape at the intersection of family, community, economics, and the environment. Through the stories of two brave women, we are reminded of the humanity and struggle of people we too often forget or dismiss.
With this 65-minute documentary, followed by a discussion led by our trained facilitators, your community can begin to address the intersection of some of the most pressing issues white rural Americans face today: poverty, class, natural resources, and corporate power.
